Blondie Evaluation!

Something i forgot to say was that is was very helpful to us as actors because it was a new way of performing and we relied on ourselves for character portrayal not on costume or anything else. Also as a group and as a performance we did push things to the limit of stereotypes and this is why political and Brechtian theatre go so well together. We push the stereotypes to the limit so that it was funny but at the same time almost very rude and racist and Brecht would have loved it.

  1. Interesting that in your first impressions section you said that you though Brechtian theatre was easy and simple, however you ideas changed throughout the process. Your blog tracks the thought processes that you had. You were able to give a detailed account of the exercise we did to develop your understanding of the Brechtian techniques. Your video response to why political theatre and Brechtian theatre works successfully is articulate and detailed.

You had an interesting opinion about ‘beauty=power’. You were able to articulate your view on this and the research you had discussed with a peer. Your response was mature and thoughtful. You were able to link this argument to the work we were doing in the workshops. You were able to link this tightly to how you perceive Blondie in the text.

Your video on the rehearsal process was detailed and covers many of the different elements of the work. You were able to speak about the Brechtian techniques you were using and how they worked in the piece. You were able to speak about the research you were doing for your character too.

Your evaluation of the performance (10 minutes of video footage) was excellent, very detailed, you were able to speak about a wide range of the moments in the piece, link them to the Brechtian techniques and justify why we did this in the performance.

There were moments that you could have annotated things you had uploaded, such as the epic theatre and dramatic theatre lists. You could have given a personal view on the contrasting elements and what you thought of these. You mentioned the songs that we were using and the lyrics we had changed them to, however you didn’t go on to write about them – why did we make the choice to use these? How were they performed?

Your work on your political protest could have been developed. You could have included some more research, however your evaluation was good, very detailed, honest and critical. You had a clear understanding of the context of your protest and you were able to speak about this passionately.

Overall your blog is entertaining, creative and gives me a clear insight into the work that you engaged with for the Political theatre term. You videos were very funny, the musical introductions made them all the more entertaining to mark! Aside from these little creative touches, the content of your blog was excellent. You were able to be very articulate in the videos. You were able to show some research that you had completed, but spoke about the research in more depth in your videos.
